Germany's Federal Prosecutor's Office announced last Friday the filing of a serious indictment against seven suspects involved in terrorist activities on European soil. According to reports based on the indictment, the suspects were in contact with senior figures in Hamas and acted according to their direct instructions to carry out attack plans. At the heart of the case is the allegation that the suspects succeeded in gathering a significant weapons cache, including an automatic rifle, 13 handguns, and more than 700 rounds of ammunition.
According to the prosecution, the weapons were intended for use in a lethal attack during October 2025, a period close to the second anniversary of the October 7 attack. The targets identified by the cell, according to the indictment, were Israeli representatives, Jewish institutions, and individuals identified as supporters of Israel in Germany and Austria. German security officials note that thwarting the plan exposes the attempts of terrorist organizations to establish secret logistical networks in Europe, with the goal of carrying out violent actions against Jewish and Israeli targets since the outbreak of the war.
The current case joins a series of similar incidents uncovered over the last two years across the continent, which led to the arrests of Hamas cells in Germany, Austria, and the UK. As early as October 2025, suspects were arrested in Germany as part of close intelligence cooperation with the Mossad, and in previous cases, weapons caches were uncovered in Vienna and other cities. In November 2024, a similar indictment was filed against four other activists who worked to locate and maintain weapons for the purpose of harming strategic targets, including the Israeli Embassy in Berlin.
As of now, the investigation in Germany is ongoing, and authorities are maintaining close monitoring of potential terrorist infrastructure. For the public, this is a reminder of the security complexity and the constant enforcement efforts of European countries in the face of threats posed to citizens and Israelis residing outside of Israel.
