The Central Unit (Yamar) of the Sharon District is expanding its investigation into the death of the late Eldar Dayan and has carried out additional arrests. According to reports from the Walla website, police arrested four young men within 24 hours who are suspected of being involved in a brawl that occurred shortly before Dayan went missing. The number of suspects currently in custody stands at six, as the four new suspects join the deceased's two friends, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, who have been detained for some time.
According to released information, the four new detainees are not new figures in the case, as they were questioned at the Petah Tikva station during the early stages of the investigation, though a decision was not made to arrest them at that time. The Yamar's decision to handle the case more extensively, combined with the collection of fresh findings, led to a shift in the law enforcement agency's stance and the execution of the renewed arrests. The four suspects are expected to appear today at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court, where police will request an extension of their detention to allow for the investigation to continue.
The investigators' goal is to re-examine the circumstances of the physical altercation, understand the dynamics that led to the brawl, and assess each suspect's contribution to the sequence of events leading up to the loss of contact with Dayan. It is important to emphasize that these are active investigative stages, and at this time, there is a distinction between the suspicions attributed to the different groups: the four young men arrested in the last day are suspected of involvement in the brawl, while Dayan's friends are suspected of involvement in his death.
Police investigators continue to cross-reference the suspects' versions with forensic evidence and findings collected at and around the scene. The timeline of the brawl remains a critical element in the case, as investigators attempt to determine Dayan's condition the moment he left the site of the confrontation and what events occurred immediately thereafter. Police have not yet provided final details on the acts attributed to each of the detainees, and legal proceedings regarding detention extensions are expected to provide more information on the investigation's direction.
It should be noted that all suspects in the case are entitled to the presumption of innocence until a judicial ruling is made, and at this stage, no indictments detailing all evidence in the case have been filed.
