The State Attorney's Office and police prosecutors have filed a serious indictment at the Beersheba Youth Court against a 16-year-old resident of Avigail. The indictment consolidates three separate cases alleging a series of criminal offenses, including unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving without a license or insurance, threats, aggravated assault, and willful property damage. The primary incident detailed in the indictment occurred when the minor allegedly took a 'Ranger' utility vehicle from a volunteer farm without the owner's permission.
According to the allegations, while driving the vehicle near the farm with another youth, the two reached a path near the home of a Palestinian resident, an amputee who uses crutches, where a violent confrontation ensued. The indictment describes the minor approaching the man while holding an iron bar and issuing threats. It is further alleged that the defendant pushed the victim's crutch, physically assaulted him, and then threatened the complainant's family members, including children, while holding the iron bar.
Subsequently, it is alleged that the defendant struck a curbstone at the scene with the iron bar; the event was captured on video. Additionally, the indictment includes further charges against the minor from 2026, including an assault incident during a confrontation in May and another incident of property damage in March. The police prosecution stated that they possess prima facie evidence supporting the charges, including complainant statements and video documentation.
In a request for release under restrictive conditions filed with the court, the prosecution argued that there are grounds for detention due to the danger posed by the minor's conduct. However, the prosecution noted that the purpose of detention could be achieved through an alternative that ensures public safety and the defendant's appearance at trial. The requested conditions include the minor's removal from the Judea and Samaria area, close supervision, the deposit of financial guarantees, and an order for the Probation Service to prepare a report on the minor's situation.
The prosecution clarified that if the defendant fails to meet these conditions, it will move for detention until the end of legal proceedings. It must be emphasized that this indictment contains allegations that have not yet been adjudicated in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
