The Haifa District Attorney's Office filed an indictment last Thursday at the Haifa District Court against two young men, aged 21 from I'billin and 18 from Ibtin, following a police pursuit that occurred at the beginning of August on Route 781. According to police reports, the incident began when a combined team of Border Police motorcyclists and Northern District Yasam (Special Patrol) officers identified a suspicious vehicle near Shfaram. When officers ordered the driver to stop for inspection, he ignored the instructions and began a vehicle pursuit.
According to law enforcement authorities, the driver continued driving recklessly while committing serious traffic offenses, including driving against the flow of traffic, thereby posing a real danger to road users. The pursuit ended after officers employed a suspect arrest procedure, which included deliberate shooting at the vehicle's tires to bring it to a halt. During the flight, it is alleged that the vehicle's occupants threw a Glock pistol out the window, which was later located by security forces. The police believe the operation prevented a weapons deal that was about to take place in the area at that time. Consequently, a request was filed to detain the two until the end of legal proceedings.
In parallel, another criminal incident was reported in the north, involving gunfire directed at a residence in Nazareth. Northern District Police opened an investigation, subsequently raiding the home of a local resident. During the search, a concealed pistol and other forensic evidence were seized. The police are expected to request an extension of the suspect's detention at the Tiberias Magistrate Court. Official data indicate that the fight against crime and arms trafficking in the Northern District has resulted in the seizure of over 600 weapons since the beginning of the year. It is important to emphasize that these are allegations appearing in indictments and police reports, and at this stage, the suspects' cases have not been decided in court; they are presumed innocent.
