The State Attorney's Office has filed a severe indictment at the District Court against Mahmoud Diba, a resident of Jerusalem, for a series of criminal offenses committed against his former fiancée following the dissolution of their relationship. As reported by 'Maariv', the indictment reveals a disturbing pattern of prolonged harassment that escalated into physical violence and aggravated property damage.
According to the charges, the relationship between the accused and the complainant was volatile, with the couple becoming engaged and calling it off after only one day last August. The prosecution alleges that, following the cancellation, the accused began sending the complainant messages containing explicit death threats, using crude and threatening language.
Beyond verbal threats, the state alleges that the incidents escalated into physical violence. According to the indictment, during a meeting in the defendant's car, a dispute arose, during which the accused slapped the complainant. These acts are joined by charges of threatening and physical assault.
The culmination of the events described by the prosecution occurred when the accused allegedly decided to damage the complainant's property. He conspired with another individual, Amir Zalabani, who is also charged in the case. According to the case description, on September 16, Diba arrived at a gas station in the Shuafat neighborhood, filled two plastic bottles with fuel, and handed them to Zalabani. It is alleged that Zalabani subsequently arrived at the woman's home, poured the flammable liquid over her vehicle, and ignited it. Consequently, both defendants are charged with aggravated arson.
It is important to note that these are allegations appearing in an indictment that has yet to be adjudicated in court, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in orderly legal proceedings. This case illustrates the severity with which law enforcement authorities view domestic violence and threats, particularly when accompanied by premeditated plans to damage property.
