An extraordinary security affair has emerged following the filing of a severe indictment at the Lod District Court against a 60-year-old mathematics lecturer from Bar-Ilan University, a resident of Petah Tikva. The charges include preparation for committing a terrorist act, extortion, and obstruction of justice.
According to the indictment, beginning in February 2023, the defendant devised a plan dubbed 'AYIT,' with the stated goal of carrying out mass killings of Arab, Bedouin, and Palestinian citizens to force their deportation to Jordan, Lebanon, and Gaza. The plan, as alleged, was detailed and included the establishment of 12 terror cells consisting of 72 militants armed with firearms and cold weapons. The defendant allegedly planned coordinated raids on Arab communities with strict orders not to distinguish between men, women, and children, while documenting the acts on social media to maximize impact.
The indictment further alleges that the lecturer sought to recruit support from IDF personnel and attempted to contact politician Moshe Feiglin to enlist his activists for the initiative. After his overtures to Feiglin went unanswered, the defendant allegedly began a campaign of extortion against him to influence the political system. The prosecution emphasized that the defendant took significant precautions to hide his actions, including the use of aliases, concealing his face, and communicating only via phones belonging to passersby.
Following the reports, the Mossawa Center reacted sharply, pointing to a connection between the public atmosphere and the radicalization of individuals. The center stated that incitement against the Arab public creates the infrastructure for such crimes and called on authorities to show zero tolerance ahead of the election cycle. Conversely, Bar-Ilan University condemned the acts attributed to the lecturer, stating that it completely rejects the ideology presented in the indictment. The university administration announced that the lecturer has been suspended immediately pending the conclusion of legal proceedings and that it will cooperate with law enforcement authorities to ensure justice is served. It should be emphasized that all details provided are based on the indictment filed with the court, and these are allegations that have not yet been determined in a judicial process.
