The investigation into the murder of attorney Arbel Feldman at his office in Rishon LeZion is moving toward a formal indictment. This week, the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court extended the detention of the suspect, Ahmad al-Rajoub, by four additional days after the prosecution filed a statement of intent to charge him with premeditated murder. According to the prosecution, the Central District Police investigation has established a sufficient evidentiary basis for an indictment.
The hearing took place in a tense atmosphere, as the deceased's colleagues shouted at the suspect upon his arrival. According to the police representative, the suspect arrived at Feldman's office equipped with an illegal weapon, shot the attorney, fled the scene, and later turned himself in to the Lachish District Police in Ashdod. The events described indicate that the suspect fired in two stages before leaving the scene and allegedly destroying his phone and the murder weapon.
Adv. Yigal Frei, chairman of the Israel Bar Association’s Court Committee, argued during the hearing that the motive was the suspect's frustration with a legal outcome in a case represented by Feldman, in which 15,000 shekels were awarded, rather than a financial dispute as previously reported. Conversely, defense attorney Oren Sasson emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and the murder weapon has not yet been recovered. The defense requested that investigative procedures, including digital identification tests, be completed before the indictment is filed.
The suspect's mental state was also discussed following claims by his counsel regarding his competence, which previously led the court to order a psychiatric evaluation. The deceased's father expressed intense anger at the insanity claims, describing the act as a calculated move by an individual with a clear goal. The police maintain they possess security footage of the suspect leaving the office while carrying the weapon.
