The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court reviewed the case this week of a 20-year-old Jerusalem resident suspected of committing the crime of kidnapping a minor. According to reports published by Walla, the incident began when the 10-year-old boy went to play with friends in a park in the Kfar Ganim Gimel neighborhood, after which he could not be reached for several hours. According to the child's mother, as reported in the media, a stranger approached the children while they were in the park, asked for money, and inquired about directions to Bnei Brak using their mobile phones. It is further alleged that the suspect used one of the devices to make a phone call and then deleted the record of the call from the device.
Upon receiving the report of the child's disappearance, law enforcement initiated extensive search operations. Using advanced capabilities of the police cyber units, investigators managed to reconstruct the deleted call from the mobile phone, which led to the discovery of the suspect's and the child's whereabouts. After five hours of distress, the child was found in Bnei Brak with the suspect by his side. Upon discovery, the suspect was arrested by police and taken in for interrogation. In court, police requested to extend the suspect's detention to further the investigation; the court granted the request and ordered a three-day extension.
It must be emphasized that these are allegations still in the preliminary stages of investigation, and no indictment has been filed nor has a judicial decision been reached regarding the suspect's guilt. The child's family has expressed hope that the investigation will proceed and that the suspect will remain in custody due to the perceived danger. Law enforcement continues to conduct additional investigative actions in this case to uncover the truth.
