The Northern District Attorney's Office has filed a severe indictment in the Nazareth District Court against three defendants for their involvement in the double murder of contractor Marwan Abu Shahin and Sa'ada Sa'ada, which occurred last June in the northern Golan Heights. The defendants are Ayman Ibrahim from Sajur, Said Madah from Sumei, and Ronen Araida from Kiryat Shmona. According to Walla, police attribute the three to an assassination squad affiliated with a crime organization in the north.
The indictment follows a complex covert investigation led by the Northern District's Central Unit (YAMAR). The details show that on June 19, Abu Shahin, identified as the target, was shot while in his vehicle in Buq'ata. Sa'ada Sa'ada, who happened to be in the area, was also hit and killed. The investigation revealed the squad acted with planning, renting a vacation unit a day before the event and procuring vehicles specifically for the mission. The manhunt for the primary shooting suspect led to a dramatic development on July 5, when a masked man was spotted firing at a worker in Yarka.
YAMAR detectives intervened and arrested the shooter, later identified as Ronen Araida, wanted for the Golan murder. An additional indictment for the attempted murder in Yarka was filed against Araida. The background to these severe events lies in an extortion affair that began months earlier. Abu Shahin was extorted over a business debt that allegedly ballooned from 1. 8 million to 3. 2 million NIS. According to the investigation, after he refused further demands, shots were fired at his home.
In the previous affair, indictments were filed against ten other suspects, and Abu Shahin was slated to testify for the prosecution. The practical implication for the public and business owners is the exposure of how business disputes beginning with extortion threats can escalate into severe crime. Police clarified that solving these cases and bringing members of crime organizations to justice is a top regional priority. It is important to note that these are allegations appearing in the indictment, and the final decision remains with the court.
