The Northern District Attorney's Office has filed a serious indictment at the Nof HaGalil-Nazareth District Court against three brothers, residents of Lod, for their alleged involvement in an extortion case targeting a farmer in northern Israel. The indictment, filed by Adv. Salim Bashara, details a series of criminal offenses, including extortion by threats and aggravated fraud. According to evidence collected by the Northern District Police, the brothers utilized the name of the Jarushi crime family to intimidate the farmer into meeting their financial demands.
It is alleged that this false identity was used to amplify the victim's sense of fear. As part of the extortion, the farmer was allegedly forced to transfer 80,000 shekels to the defendants and was further demanded to pay additional, unauthorized sums. Beyond cash payments, the indictment alleges that the farmer was forced to surrender 1. 6 tons of cherries without compensation, with the value of the produce not offset against the farmer’s alleged debt. The victim received threatening text messages on his mobile phone, with explicit warnings that his home and family would be harmed.
The arrests began in early August 2026, when Northern District officers apprehended two of the brothers during a vehicle stop in northern Israel, while the third brother was arrested concurrently in the central region. Following the completion of the investigation, the case has moved to the courts for further proceedings. The Israel Police stated that it will continue to work decisively to prosecute offenders as part of the national effort to maintain public safety and order.
This case follows a recent incident in the south, where four residents of Rahat were arrested on suspicion of extorting a meat distribution operator. It is clarified that all allegations in the indictment have yet to be proven in court, and the defendants enjoy the presumption of innocence until a verdict is reached.
