The Haifa District Attorney's Office has filed an indictment in the Haifa District Court against a 28-year-old Tamra resident, accused of opening fire at a bicycle repair shop in the city. The incident, which took place at the beginning of July, resulted in the injury of a local resident. According to reports, the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, where they were sedated and intubated in moderate-to-severe condition. According to the facts of the case, other people were present at the business during the incident, significantly increasing the gravity of the offense and endangering public safety.
Security camera footage has assisted in reconstructing the chain of events, from the defendant's arrival at the scene to his escape immediately following the shooting. Forces from the Israel Police Northern District launched an investigation upon receiving the report and operated at the scene while simultaneously searching for the suspect. Within hours, investigators identified the suspect and arrested him. Further police operations led to the discovery of the vehicle used for the escape, which was found hidden in Haifa.
During the arrest, drugs not for personal use were seized at the suspect's home, adding to the list of charges. The prosecution has petitioned the court to remand the defendant in custody until the conclusion of proceedings, citing the danger he poses to the public. This incident follows a series of violent events in Tamra recently, including a subsequent fatal shooting that resulted in one death and another injury. The Israel Police stated that the organization is working decisively to thwart such criminal events, noting that hundreds of illegal weapons have been seized in the Northern District this year to protect the public and prosecute those involved in violent criminal activity. At this stage, no response has been released from the defense regarding the indictment or the prosecution's claims.
