The Southern District Attorney's Office recently filed an indictment at the Nazareth District Court, detailing a complex and violent criminal case that occurred in the northern region. As reported by ynet, the background to the events involves a drug deal in Kiryat Shmona that went awry after a 59-year-old local resident, who purchased drugs, failed to settle a debt from past and additional purchases. According to the charges, three youths in their 20s from Katzrin and Kiryat Shmona decided to respond to the non-payment with severe violence.
The three left the victim's home but returned shortly after, accompanied by another suspect. During the return trip, the suspects spotted the client's brother and another individual on the street; the driver allegedly accelerated and struck one of them, causing minor injuries. Upon arriving at their destination, the defendants attacked the client with an axe and clubs, leaving him in serious condition. According to the case details, a fifth suspect, a man in his 70s, assisted the three youths in fleeing the scene.
To derail the police investigation, the group allegedly employed additional tactics. It is claimed that another 22-year-old youth presented himself at the police station and provided false testimony, claiming he was the driver at the time of the incident, following attempts to persuade him to provide a false account regarding the attackers' identities. The indictment charges the five involved with a series of serious offenses, including aggravated assault, drug trafficking and supply, aiding assault, subornation of perjury, obstruction of justice, threats, and possession of drugs for non-personal use.
The suspects were arrested in various locations across the country. This incident highlights the dangers inherent in drug-related offenses and the severe legal repercussions for attempts to obstruct an active criminal investigation. The trial is expected to proceed at the Nazareth District Court, where the claims against those involved will be adjudicated.
