The Northern District Prosecutor's Office announced it will file an indictment today at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court against three men, aged 32, 36, and 50, from Iksal and Nazareth, on suspicion of involvement in a severe case of extortion by threats. The case, investigated by the Northern District Police, began due to a bureaucratic error in the registration of a land plot in the town of Iksal. According to the published investigation materials, the registration error led an individual—who claimed the land should have been registered in his name—to turn to parties identified with a crime family to act on his behalf to obtain financial 'compensation.
' As part of the extortion attempt, the victim was ordered to pay one million shekels. After refusing to comply, a series of violent incidents began, including throwing grenades at the victim's home and the homes of his family members. Simultaneously, psychological pressure was applied through threatening phone calls. Police uncovered recordings in which explicit threats were made against the lives of the victim and his children, while the extortionists set a strict financial ultimatum.
According to the facts of the case, the claimants increased the requested compensation amount while using vulgar language and issuing tangible warnings regarding the consequences of the victim's refusal. The case highlights the complexity arising from the use of criminal elements to resolve civil disputes, where administrative land registration errors can escalate into life-threatening criminal events. The investigation concluded with the arrest of the three suspects, against whom the indictment will now be filed. It must be emphasized that these are allegations at this stage, and the accused are entitled to a fair trial until their guilt is proven in court.
